Remember me

Introducing

July 10, 2008
Scott Ham was born and raised a Yankee fan in New York.  His
childhood was spent collecting Don Mattingly cards and praying for
good pitching.  Scott graduated from Boston University's College of
Communication where he received a BS in Television and Film
Production with a concentration in writing.  He first opened his eyes
to the world of sabermetrics and Bill James after joining a Yankee
newsgroup on Usenet and discovering Rob Neyer's articles.  As he
learned to forget the conventional wisdom, he wrote articles for a
couple of sports sites and then later in a blog.  Scott is married
with two boys and works in Manhattan as a film editor in
advertising.  He can be reached at scotth23@hotmail.com

Is you suggestin’ that Greg Cadaret was not a good pitcher?   Also, the New York Janquis won more regular-season games in the 1980s than any other franchise, but let’s move on.
In recent weeks we have been working at identifying five good young writers whose work we can exploit, excuse me, showcase here on BJOL.   Unfortunately. . ..or fortunately, depending on perspective. . .there were many more than five good writers who asked to be included, not all of them young; I don’t really care about the “young” part, it was just an expression.   We have selected five, and we will begin now to introduce them to you, starting with Scott Ham, whose first article appears today.
To those of you who sent articles, asking for an opportunity to be included here, I really can’t tell you how much I appreciate your interest. Those of you who were selected for the first five should already have been informed of this.   The rest of you should be receiving an e-mail from me within the next week or so, expressing my personal gratitude for your effort.
I think the five guys we have are really good.   I wanted to introduce them one at a time and one article at a time, because otherwise our roster would look like a spring training game where you have an infield of Edmundo Acosta and Jeremy Willers and Alexi Valusuez and U.L. Stufflemint, and at the end of the game you don’t know one from the next.   We’ll start with Scott in a lame effort to prove that I don’t hate Yankee fans unless they deserve it. I hope you enjoy Scott’s work.
