NFL Week Eight Predictions

October 25, 2008

Sorry to be late with these again.   These are our predictions for Week Eight, and, since we are now 32-24 on the year in our predictions, you should pull all the money out of your 401k to bet on these predictions (Hey, it’s got to be better than the stock market.)   We have:

Miami by half a point over Buffalo

            Baltimore by 14 over Oakland

            Carolina by 5 over Arizona

Tampa Bay by 3 over Dallas

New Orleans by 2 over San Diego

(I think the first time this season I have picked the Chargers to lose.  They haven’t been doing my prediction record any good.)

            Philadelphia by 9 over Atlanta

Jets by 13 over KC, assuming KC can find their way to the airport

New England by 12 over St. Louis

Washington by 12 over Detroit, although Detroit has to win sometime

Houston by 6 over Cincinnati, ditto for the Bengals

            Jacksonville by 4 over Cleveland

Pittsburgh by 8 over the Giants, in perhaps the marquee game of the week

San Francisco by 7 over Seattle

We’re picking the team with the better record to win in every game except that

            1)  We’re picking the Dolphins (2-4) to beat the Bills (5-1)

            2)  The Chargers and Saints are both 3-4

            3)  The Steelers and Giants are both 5-1, and

            4)  We’re picking the Eagles (3-3) to win the battle of the Birds of Prey, although the Falcons are 4-2.

We appear to be at odds with the betting line in three games--Buffalo/Miami, San Diego/New Orleans, and Dallas/Tampa Bay.

Have you checked to see how you've done overall with respect to games in which you've been "at odds with the betting line"?

Especially if you believe in buying stocks when they're expensive and selling when they're cheap. Which a lot of people do, even if they don't admit it.
