Remember me

How can the injuries to the Cubs' starters be a good thing?

June 1, 2005
Because now they are forced to use Glendon Rusch as a starter! Over the last two years 142 pitchers have started at least 20 games in the majors. Rusch ranks 8th in ERA (3.23) among those pitchers, considering only their statistics as a starter. His record is 6-3, but more importantly the team record is 13-8 in his 21 starts, including a 4-1 mark this year. Here's the top ten two-year ERAs among starters:

Jake Peavy        2.30
Roger Clemens     2.54
Ben Sheets        2.81
Carlos Zambrano   2.87
Johan Santana     2.88
Randy Johnson     2.91
Brad Penny        3.15
Glendon Rusch     3.23
Carl Pavano       3.26
Tim Hudson        3.38
