Has there been anyone since Babe Ruth to have a career batting average higher than his career ERA?

September 21, 2004
Babe Ruth had a career batting average of .342 with a career ERA as a pitcher of only 2.28. Amazingly, there has been one player since Babe Ruth to accomplish this feat. It’s none other than the player affectionately dubbed “The Fat Tub of Goo” by David Letterman in 1985 on national TV: Terry Forster. As primarily a relief pitcher during his career, Forster was limited to 78 at bats, but he hit a remarkable .397 for his career, including 10-for-19 (.526) for the 1972 White Sox. His career ERA was 3.23.
