Your statement that this is the world series between two expansion teams is accurate, and (I think) surprising, in that 14 of 30 teams are expansion teams. It also prompted me to list how many times each of the 14 expansion teams have appeared. Turns out the Mets lead the group, with KC second:
Mets: 5 (1969, 1973, 1986, 2000, 2015
Royals: 4 1980, 1985, 2014, 2015
Blue Jays 2 1992, 1993
Marlins 2 1997, 2003
Padres 2 1984, 1998
Rangers 2 2011, 2012
Astros, Angels, Rockies, Rays, Diamondbacks, Brewers 1 each
Nationals, Mariners 0
Mets, Blue Jays, and Marlins are the only expansion teams to win more than one world series.
